Oyama Offers an Idealistic Country Lifestyle
If you travel north from Kelowna towards Vernon you will drive through the small lakeside community of Oyama. This is a beautiful rural neighbourhood in the Okanagan valley that sites between Kalamalka Lake and Wood Lake. Kalamalka Lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Canada with its many shades of blue providing an amazing show to onlookers.
Most homes in this community are on larger agricultural lots and feature beautiful views of the lakes. A quieter more peaceful lifestyle happens here as the community is about 40 minutes from Downtown Kelowna and out of the hustle and bustle of the city. Amenities are provided by services in Winfield which is 10 minutes south.
The original Highway 97 in Oyama use to follow along the west side of Wood Lake but several years ago a large bypass was built and allowed for the creation of the Pelmewash Parkway on the old highway. This now creates a much more enjoyable drive along the lake from Lake Country to Oyama Road and the excellent Gatzke’s Farm Market at the junction of the Parkway and Oyama Road.
Some key attractions in the area are Beasley Park at the south end of Wood Lake and Kaloya Regional Park at the South end of Kalamalka Lake. Another major attraction is the new Rail Trail linear park that follows the old CP rail line down the valley. A unique bend in the rail line has the trail move north on the East side of Wood Lake and crosses over at Oyama to follow up the west side of Kalamalka Lake.
There are very few new lot subdivisions available in this area as the ALR tends to prevent subdivision and development from occurring. However, there is currently an opportunity to buy new home lots at the Kalamalka Beach development. This is a true gem of a location just above Kaloya Park off of Trask Road. The home sites are situated on a gentle slope one street up from the lake with beautiful views west. It is an amazing location and a rare opportunity as very few home lots are available this close to Kalamalka lake.
Lot prices are affordable in the 300,000 to 400,000 range. As of May 10 there were approximately seven lots available from the original fifteen. Three of these were suitable for walk out ranchers and the remaining four for two story homes.
